Over 300,000 volunteers, the biggest volunteer workforce in the United Kingdom, are engaged in school governance. All give of their time freely, often giving as much as two or three days a month to help make a difference to our children's educational future.

Governor volunteers are often parents, those engaged with their communities, those with business experience and those with an educational background. They are all required to work with others to hold head teachers and senior leaders to account for the educational performance of their school, academy or multi academy trust. Those same people are held to account for their own performance in governance. They are inspected and judged by Ofsted, they are held to account by local authorities, diocesan leaders, school commissioners and national government for the outcomes of children at the schools they represent. Many governors are professional people, many receive training in their chosen career path, and many bring an expectation that training and development opportunities will be available to them as they enter school governance. Some have the benefit of certified/ continuing personal development at the heart of their working lives enabling them to achieve performance management targets, others engage in their own development through reading or research but what training do they get to better prepare them for their governance roles? Who ensures that they are inducted, trained and equipped for undertaking such a vital role within the education system? Safeguarding of children sits at the very heart of everything that we do within our schools, academies and Multi Academy Trusts. Parents expect that their children are safe when they are at school. Safeguarding is a statutory requirement within educational establishments and covers every aspect of school life ranging from physical environment, recruitment, PREVENT strategies and Keeping Children Safe in Education. Training, delivered by someone who is a proven system leader, a National Leader of Governance and who can bring personal knowledge and experience of delivering outstanding governance within both primary  and secondary sectors is a 'must have' in the development of your  governance structure. SPH Governance in Education Ltd delivers all of the above through a series of bespoke training opportunities specifically aimed at those undertaking the governance role. Our training courses can be organised locally or UK wide.
